These shoes are super comfortable and look amazing. Most walking shoes make my toes hurt after a while, but these have a wider toe base and work great on long walks.
Kevin Wu –
I was recommended these and after a short break-in they became comfortable around the toe. I have a sciatic problem and initially felt achy, but after using them briefly on my next walk I had no pain. They feel energizing, help propel me forward, and the roomy toe box reduced my tiredness. True to size — I cannot recommend these enough.

I never knew I needed a wide toe box until I started wearing the Altra Lone Peaks. They provide true comfort because only the toe box is wide, unlike other wide shoes that make the whole shoe feel big; my mid-foot and heel fit normally. The Lone Peak 6 and 7 are the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn—the roomy toe box lets my toes spread and grip the trail, and my feet feel stronger. I found the Lone Peak 8s less squishy due to an added rock plate, but I’ll probably still buy them because of that wide toe box.
Kevin Bridges –
Very comfortable. Wore these hiking in Utah without breaking them in and had no problems. Roomy toe box, decent arch support, and excellent traction — very happy with them.

I’ve had these Altra trail running shoes for almost a year and used them hiking in Arizona, the Adirondacks, Shenandoah and the Smokies. The traction is great, they’re light, and the wide toe prevents blisters on my little toe. I sprayed them with Camp Dry so they were water resistant. They’re meant for trail running but work well for light hiking when you don’t want heavy boots, and they’ve held up well for the miles I’ve put on them. I also love the colors; my only negative is that they were pricey.

My kiddo turned me onto these — the first 10 minutes felt comfortable around the box toe, though I had a little sciatic-related achiness. I followed his advice to break them in with a 15-minute walk and had no pain; they energize me, seem to assist my walking and propel me forward, and not squeezing my feet reduced my tiredness. I cannot recommend these enough. True to size.

I never knew how much I needed a wide toe box until I started wearing the Altra Lone Peak; now I can’t find true comfort in any other shoe. These are only wide in the toe box rather than the whole shoe, so they don’t feel big in the mid-foot or heel, and they’re the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn. My toes can spread and actually grip uneven trail surfaces, and after hiking in the Lone Peaks for several years my foot muscles feel stronger. I own two pairs of Lone Peak 6s and one pair of Lone Peak 7s; I tried the Lone Peak 8s and found the sole less squishy because of a rock plate, but I’ll probably buy them anyway for the wide toe box.

Very conformable! I wore these hiking in Utah without breaking them in and I had no problems. I love the roomy toe box, decent arch support, and excellent traction. I’m very happy with them.
